You'll always be my baby.

Friday, December 12, 2014

Let me start by saying that I love adore the little girl Kennedy is becoming. It's a very bittersweet thing though! Over the past few months it has started to hit me that she's not a baby anymore, but a little kid now! She is still bursting with personality. She's stubborn at times, very determined and independent... And let's be honest that sounds a lot like me! In my opinion these can all be very good character traits to possess as long as they are channeled into the right direction.

I've been looking into Montessori teaching methods, activities and home ideas as they foster a lot of these character traits rather than trying to inhibit Kennedy. One of the first things we have done is buy her a little table that's just her size! She sits at it to eat her snacks and meals and she has loved it from day one. That's what this big smile is for!

I've also attempted to paint her toe nails a couple of times and she likes to look at them when we're "all doe" (that's the way she says it) but she doesn't like to sit still to let me paint them so I have to try and be good and quick - something I'll have to work on.

We sure love this little gal and all she teaches us while we try our best to be good parents to her.

Our Halloween in Texas.

Monday, November 24, 2014

Since Cole now works at Costco and that's considered the retail industry, he can't request any time off from November 15th through January 15th, since it's crazy around the holidays. We decided to hop on a plane to Texas for Halloween since we wouldn't be able to spend any of the upcoming holidays with my family and boy did we have a good time! We flew in on a Wednesday night and were able to see some really good friends of ours and their cute kids in Canyon before heading to Childress the next day. While we were in Childress we got to see one of my brother's football games, have some fun on Halloween and even made a trip to the farm.

Leaving was hard, as it always is, but we'll be back there sometime in January or February, so we're hangin' in there until then!

Helping people out.

This past summer I attended a workshop in which I was trained to become a birth doula and can I just say I loved every single minute of it? Cuz I did!

My sister-in-law Madi will be having a sweet baby boy next month and I'm beyond excited and honored that she has chosen me to be her doula. I can't wait to meet that sweet little guy! If you or anyone in the Utah County area is looking for a doula, definitely let me know! I'm willing to do a free 30 minute consultation with them where they can get to know me and see if I'm the right fit for them!

I spent 3 days last week training to become a birth doula and absolutely LOVED every minute of it. In order to complete my certification I need to attend three births, but I currently only have one lined up so if you or someone you know wants/needs a doula at low-cost, in Utah, let me know! A few statistics about doulas, "Numerous clinical studies have found that a doula’s presence at birth tends to result in shorter labors with fewer complications, reduces negative feelings about one’s childbirth experience, reduces the need for pitocin (a labor-inducing drug), forceps or vacuum extraction and cesareans, reduces the mother’s request for pain medication and/or epidurals." Who doesn't want a birth experience like that?! #birthdoula #donadoula #laborcompanion #doulasofutah #utahdoulaassociation #UDA

Welcome to Kennedy's house.

As some of you may not know...we've moved...AGAIN! We only moved a few blocks away from where we were previously, so we are still attending the same ward (church congregation) that we were before, but we were blessed with an opportunity to live in a place that was newer, nicer and cheaper, so who can say no to that?!

Kennedy absolutely loves being outside, which I'm sure I've mentioned before, but I tell you what, I think each day she loves it more and more! We have this cute little bike/tricycle thing she got for her birthday that I've been trying to be better at taking her for a walk in, and she really enjoys that. There's also two parks that we're really close to so I usually walk her to one of those and let her climb around on things that she can/things that she really can't but does anyways. She's one determined little gal, I tell ya! I guess she gets that from me... :)

She truly brings so much light and beauty into my life. I love being a mom, especially Kennedy's mom.

Today was a crisp, beautiful fall day and while Cole was at work for a few hours, I decided to go on a little walk to the park with Kennedy and then when we got back she ran straight for this little house that just so happens to be in our new backyard. Our landlords have little kids, so we have the perks of having some fun things without actually having to pay for them, so that's been nice!

I hope your Sunday has been as great as mine. And Kennedy, I hope you always know and I hope I can always properly demonstrate to you how truly happy you make me and your "dat" (which is totally the way you say dad).

A year to remember.

Kennedy is well over a year old now, but I just wanted to go ahead and give her 12 month old update!

Kennedy Lou, at 12 months old you:

Run around!

You love to kick and throw a ball of any size, so watch out everyone!

You love dogs and you can say "dog" now when you see one! You also say "ruff ruff," which is super cute.

You also roar when asked what a lion says, however your roar and engine "vrooming" sound the same, so that's pretty awesome and funny. :)

Your hair has started to curl in the back and it's super cute! I hope it stays that way. :)

You enjoy being outside so much and we hope to help you keep that love for the outdoors as you continue to grow older.

Whenever your dad walks out the door to go to work or school you throw up your hands, like "where'd he go" and it's super cute. Then you walk around the house saying dad like you're looking for him.

You adore being around other kids, especially "babies" which are smaller than you. You go up to them and give them hugs while saying "awww." You do this with you baby dolls all the time and you've even started rocking them when we sing "rock-a-by baby" to you. It's amazing to me how innate the nurturing ability is in little girls.

You fold your little arms and bow your head for about a half second when we tell you it's time for prayer. And just about anytime you sit down to eat you fold your arms, which is a great reminder of us to pray in gratitude for our food and many blessings we have.

You sure have changed our lives for the better Kennedy Lou. We were thrilled when we found out you were going to be joining our little family but we never could have guessed how much joy and excitement you'd bring into our lives. We love you more than words can truly explain and hope to help you grow up to be the woman you are destined to be. I know you'll do great things with that beautiful little light you carry with you. Just try not to grow too fast in the years to come, okay?

With so much love,

Mama + Dad

Summer has come to an end.

Monday, September 8, 2014

If you know me, you know that I love summertime. I love being at a pool or waterpark, hearing children laughing and playing, smelling the sunscreen in the air and the warm weather. Without a doubt it's my favorite season.

However... Utah has actually made me a pretty big fan of fall! The trees here are absolutely beautiful as they shift in colors from yellow, to orange to red. It's really something spectacular that I didn't ever experience growing up in Texas. I've also come to love making pumpkin anything, wearing scarves and boots and feeling that cool, crisp air and of course I love when the magic of football season is in action. I just wish fall lasted a little longer than it usually does before the snow hits and the long, Utah winter sets in.

Looking back at this past summer, we had a lot of fun and we did a lot of relaxing, playing and working hard. One Saturday we went on a hike to Grotto Falls that's in Payson, UT and it was so pretty, easy and fun! That's my kinda hike. :)

I will miss summertime and I will most definitely miss quite a few things about Utah when life takes us elsewhere, but for now I'ms saying bring it on, fall!

The birthday girl.

Sunday, August 10, 2014

Yesterday was Kennedy Lou's first birthday! We had a nice little party with family and friends and even an outing to the newly built aquarium in Draper. It was so fun and so nice of people to come celebrate and bring gifts to our baby girl!

Now I really know what people mean when they say kids grow like weeds - how can she already be a year?! I can remember like it was yesterday the morning I went into labor, and how just a short five hours later I was holding that sweet thing in my arms. She has truly taught me so much this past year and it has been so much fun seeing her grow and develop. I look forward to the many more things I learn from being her mommy. She has truly changed my life for the better! I must say being a mom is the best feeling in the world, but at times the most intimidating. Luckily we've got prayer and other religious guidance to help us raise her - if not we'd be doomed!

Kennedy Lou, thank you for being the little spitfire, sweet and beautiful girl you are. Can you please stop growing so fast now? I'd really appreciate it.

Our little family.

Thursday, July 31, 2014

Back in May we had David Terry, the same person who took our engagement and wedding photos, take some family pictures for us. He did a terrific job, just as he did before!

I was a little worried Kennedy wouldn't be very cooperative since we were taking them around her bedtime, but he still managed to get some cute shots of her!

I'm in love with them and with this cute little family I have.
