RIP Mitchell

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

Cole and I were devastated to find out that Mitchell, one of the Guist brothers from Swamp People, passed away this past Monday. We loved watching him and his brother Glen do crazy things like catch rabbits and crawdads. Swamp People won't be the same without him and I'm sure he is going to be greatly missed by all of those who knew him personally out in Louisiana, as well as those of us that felt like we knew him just from watching the show so religiously.

RIP Mitchell, we hope you are still doing what you love as you're on the other side now.

The dangers of texting while driving.

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

Cole sent me an email today with a link to this article that I am very intrigued with, mainly since I am studying public health. According to the National Highway Traffic Traffic Safety Administration,

"In 2009, 5,474 people were killed in crashes involving driver distraction, and an estimated 448,000 were injured."

Are these numbers not enough to convince people that they need to stay away from distracted driving?
They most definitely should be if you ask me.

In case you didn't know, the following are classified as distracted driving:
Texting
Using a cell phone or smartphone
Eating and drinking
Talking to passengers
Grooming
Reading, including maps
Using a navigation system
Watching a video
Adjusting a radio, CD player, or MP3 player
"What if you were forced to text and drive at the same time? It’s probably not the smartest idea idea in the world, but it might actually drive home the message about texting behind the wheel.
A video filmed in Brussels, Belgium does its part to help scare new drivers: in it, several driving students are told that a government mandate requires them to prove they can text while driving. The test instructor even holds up a copy of the fake decree before dictating messages they must send while navigating around an obstacle course. Each of the drivers handily complies with his requests, but frequent gasping and heavy braking might forever scare them from future attempts."

Forgotten Photos

Friday, May 4, 2012

So I just realized that there are some pictures that we took on my phone last weekend while we were in St. George that I forgot to add to the previous post, but I'm sure you want to see them, so here ya go! :)

We regret not buying this now.
We went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast on Saturday morning before we headed off to the temple! Which by the way was an awesome experience for us - as always! :)
Cole enjoying his grits! :)

Stuffing my pancakes in my mouth. :)

Cole challenged me to a game of checkers as we were leaving - he was black and I was red...can you see who won? ;)

One year down, eternity to go.

This past Sunday marks our first year of being married. Crazy. It does not in any way feel like we've been married for an entire year already!

There have definitely been days where we haven't gotten along so well and others where it seemed nothing could go wrong. Throughout them all our love has stayed strong and has become even stronger through everything we have faced together. We agreed before we got married that divorce would never ever ever EVER be spoken of and that we would work every single thing out. I will be the first to admit that I get be pretty ornery and stubborn at times, but I'm grateful for a man like Cole who endures through it and has learned that I will eventually come around and we will work things out.

He makes me feel so special and important.
He loves me when I wake up in the mornings although I have bad breath.
He loves me when I feel like I'm having a bad hair day.
He warms up my feet when they're cold at night.
He prays for me.
We go to the temple together, at least once a month.
We read the Book of Mormon together every night.
He's a wonderful husband to me.
We love one another no matter what.

Looking back on this past year I'd say we've both learned and progressed SO much all thanks to the experiences we've been able to share. I look forward to the many more years of life we have together and I thank my Heavenly Father that he is mine and I'm his for time and all eternity because of our decision to be sealed in the Bountiful Utah Temple just a little over a year ago.

Since we have work and I have school we were only able to escape for the weekend to St. George to celebrate, but it was definitely a worth while trip. We just relaxed and enjoyed one another's company without a worry in the world. Lots of movie watching, some hanging out by the pool and eating some yummy food. I love this man!

Yummy bread sticks from Pizza Factory!

These pictures show just a few of the many sweet surprises I've received from Cole.

Buying and hanging up a clock on the wall in our bedroom with this cute little message inside.

Beautiful orchids.
Sweet little notes.

Breakfast in bed.

You may think you're the luckiest person out there, but you have no idea. I have been SO blessed to be married to Mr. Nicholas Clark Gordon for this past year and I cannot even find the words to explain my joy and happiness in the fact that he is mine all mine forever.

Sportin our Texas Ranger gear - thanks Madre and Jeff!

He was trying to blow out my candles!

I had to make sure he knew all the boxes of Samoas were for ME. :)

Mckay got me a Snuggie!

Madi & Jason burned me a Justin Bieber CD - woohoo! Cole, however, will not be listening to it with me... :)

We were even able to hang out with Savanna and our friend Clint on the night of my birthday!

All in all it was a great day and I'm grateful for another year of life that is ahead of me in which I can learn and grow and strive to become the woman I should be.

Thanks to everyone for making my day that much more special!
