Martin Luther King Jr.

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

I have always been fascinated with the wise words and amazing things that Martin Luther King Jr. has been a part of, and I stumbled across this quote just now and thought I'd share it:

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."

What matters to you? Will you speak out about it, or stay silent?

Spiders, Spurts & Smiles

Sunday, March 18, 2012

These are all true in our relationship. Especially the part about the spiders.

Just last week we found 11 or more spiders crawling around in our house and I had one too many close encounters with those little suckers! I have been quite paranoid, to say the least, because of those creepy, crawly little guys. I've looked at the floor everywhere I've walked, shook out our covers when we went to bed, woke up in the middle of the night worried there were spiders in our bed.
The list goes on...

Thank goodness I have Cole to catch those yucky things and kill them! He's also sprayed our house with some stuff that'll kill them when they walk through the areas that have been sprayed and it's worked! Thanks to Jerry Ferguson (the gentleman we are renting from) for bringing that stuff over.

Now for the smiles! :)

Some friends of ours got married in the LDS Salt Lake City Temple yesterday, so we went up for their reception last night and decided to hang out at Buffalo Wild Wings afterwards - so fun! It's still so hard to believe at times that there is a Buffalo Wild Wings in Utah!!
Jason (Madi's fiancé), Madi, myself and Cole at Brock & Stacey's wedding reception.

Enjoying some B-Dubbs with our friends!
We only have about 3 and a half weeks left of classes until the end of this semester and it is definitely starting to feel like that since we have so many upcoming assignments and tests! Time to buckle down and start preparing for finals - oh joy!

We love our friends and our family. We would be lost without y'all and all you do for us. Thank y'all! :)

Mormons in a nutshell.

I found this as I was perusing through Pinterest and thought it would be a concise and informative explanation of what our religion is all about.

Man's Search for Meaning

Cole and I are currently in a class in which we read works of literature and determine how they are related to war. It has so far been a fairly interesting class and we are killing two birds with one stone by taking it since it covers too of the general classes that all BYU students have to take, so it's worked out pretty nicely.

The book we're currently reading is titled Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl. This book talks about his experiences in Auschwitz and how he dealt with the sufferings he had while he was there. He was a psychiatrist previous to being in Auschwitz and upon being freed he then went on to come up with the term "logotherapy" which is how you figure out what your meaning in life is.

My favorite quote from the book is actually from a German philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche.

"He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how."

Such a short sentence, but so much meaning.

What "why" are you living for and "how" are you doing it?

Green thumb.

So a couple of weekends ago we ventured out to Home Depot to buy some seeds so we could grow some veggies! We went out on a limb and bought a salsa garden kit that included seeds for cilantro, jalapeños, onions and tomatoes as well as peat (soil) and pots to plant them in. Neither of us have had any experience with growing plants, so it's been quite the adventure! We've been pretty good at watering them and making sure they get some sun, but hadn't seen any results...until TODAY! Cole was watering the plants and he noticed that our onion plant has sprouted!
We're now proud parents of a baby onion plant. :)

We figured we'd start off trying to grow a plant, then raise a dog and then we'll think about kids. :)

Day 1 (February 18, 2012)

Day 13
Hopefully they keep growing so we can always have the ingredients for yummy salsa as well as delicious Mexican food!
