Christmas & More

Thursday, December 29, 2011

So, in case you didn't know...we got to spend our Christmas in the wonderful land of Texas! It was SO great and so fun. We thoroughly enjoyed our time spent with family and friends, and wished it didn't have to end so soon! I cried like a stinkin' baby for the whole first hour we were on the road to come back to Utah. Hopefully Cole will be accepted into the Middle Eastern Studies Master's program at the University of Texas in Austin, so that we can be a little closer to our family in Texas for a little bit before we end up living in another country.

While we were in Texas, we ate some yummy food, (Thai kitchen a few times :)) had some good company and got some wonderful gifts from loved ones. Sounds like a good time if ya ask me! We didn't take as many pictures as we should've but here's the ones we do have!

Us with the Monticello, UT Temple

Our first stop in Texas - Buffalo Wild Wings!

While we were at the theater in Amarillo to watch Sherlock Holmes, we thought it would be a good idea to buy some mustaches. To our dismay the were all sold out and we didn't realize that until after we had put in our 50 cents.

On anther note, we watched We Bought A Zoo last night and loved it! Definitely a movie to go see.

And last but most definitely not least, today marks a year since Cole proposed to me in Times Square. Me finally getting to New York City on this day last year was definitely a miracle considering historical snow storms that hit the east coast last year cancelled thousands of flights, with my original flight being one of those.

I am so grateful that I was able to spend the rest of my Christmas break, with my then soon to be family, and have the experiences with them that I did. Most importantly I'm so grateful that I was able to make it out there and that on that very day, the 29th of December 2010, Cole asked me to be his eternal companion. I would have to say that saying yes to him has been the
best decision I've ever made.

In case you didn't get to see the video of the proposal - here ya go!
It still gives me butterflies when I watch it. :)

We hope you had a very Merry Christmas and that you have a wonderful New Year!

The Power of Scriptures

Thursday, December 22, 2011

A friend of mine who is serving a mission for the LDS church right now, shared a scripture in an email and I wanted to share it with whoever will read this. It uplifted me and made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside (aka loved by Heavenly Father). :)

Joshua 1:5&9
5) There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

9) Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
I added the emphasis because those are the parts that stand out to me the most and give me the most comfort as I read these scriptures.

Welcome to our home.

So we did a little tour of our house this morning so that y'all could take a look around for yourselves, and see just how blessed we are to live in the cute house that we do for such a good price.
God is good. Blessings are wonderful.

Men's Hearts Shall Fail Them

Sunday, December 11, 2011

The woman who taught Relief Society today shared this MormonMessage (clips on YouTube sharing and explaining beliefs of the LDS Church) with us. It was very inspiring and touching to me and I hope it is the same for you.

Enjoy!

THE BEST OF CANDY...

Tuesday, December 6, 2011

So April and I have been debating the top 5 best candies tonight.....She says: Sourz, Skittles, Starbursts, Twizzlers PULL-n-PEEL, and Jolly Ranchers.
#1 Sourz (I've never heard of them)
#2 Skittles (Only the purple and red ones are good)

#3 Starbursts (Ever tried melting them over a campfire!? DELICIOUS.
But once again, only the red and pink are good)
#4 Twizzlers PULL-n-PEEL (These are probably top 10)

#5 Jolly Ranchers (Not a fan)

I say:  Reese's pieces, Riesens, Wild Berry Skittles (the purple bag), Peanut m&m's, and Milk Duds.

#1 Reese's pieces (God's favorite candy)

#2 Riesen's (Just pure, rich, European goodness)
#3 Wild Berry Skittles (ONLY good flavors! No nasty
 yellow or orange flavors)
#4 Peanut m&m's (A Gordon family staple)
#5 Milk Duds (Perfect movie candy because they take longer to eat! )

While I won't make up your mind's for you (I don't really think that would be possible) I will help you with some caption commentary. Feel free to agree with me and/or disagree with April. As much as I do love her, sometimes she just has to realize that her husband is occasionally right. :)

Lesson Learned

Benjamin Franklin's quote "early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise" made a lot of sense to me today...

Cole and I went to bed late (by my standards :)) but for a good cause. We decided to watch a movie and Cole chose. Usually I like to have a say in what we watch, but I decided to let him go ahead and make the decision. He picked Homeward Bound. I was in shock and felt so proud of him for picking one of my childhood favorites. He actually really enjoyed it and was crackin' up throughout the entire thing! If you haven't seen it, it's a must that you do. Cole, someone who's not too keen on animals, even liked it!

These are the 3 main "characters" in the movie. Don't worry, this is not one of those annoying animal movies where the mouths of the animals actually move when they're talking, and they don't talk to humans in this movie. Just each other. :)

Well this morning it was a bit of a challenge to get out of bed. Both of our alarms on our phones were going off like crazy and we kept snoozing them and saying "five more minutes." Well like always those "five minutes" turn into 30 so you're late getting up and late starting your day, which is always really hard. Cole got ready really quick, since boys can do that, and then headed up to Midway to work at The Store (Thursday will be his last day). I however had to take a shower and then get ready so I called my office and left a message letting them know I was going to be late. Little did I know I would have yet another set back...

I'm about to head out the door and I remember I need to get something to eat for breakfast. In the past few months I've been craving/addicted to orange juice like none other, so I decided to pour me a glass of OJ to drink before I got to school. I put my stuff in the car, back out of the garage and then, just as I realize I'm about to go over the bump that's in our drive way, it's too late to reach for the glass of OJ. I look down and see it splash out of my cup! Luckily most of it fell into the cup holders BUT my concern was how do I get it out?! I could get a straw and drink it, but other than that I don't have any other option. I call Cole in my moment of panic and he doesn't answer. I call him again and no answer. Then I call his work and have them get a hold of him. He was good at getting me to calm down and not stress over this mishap, as well as telling me to get the Shop-vac out to suck it right up. I did and it worked wonderfully! I was a little against getting a Shop-vac as a wedding gift, but I now will be forever grateful for it. I made it to work alive and I lived through the day at school and work, BUT...

As I got out of class I walked towards the parking lot where we normally park our car. I get to the parking lot and can't remember what row I parked on so I walk around and click the remote buttons on my keys to try and make my car honk. I get nothing. Then it hits me - I parked clear on the other side of campus from where I was standing. To some this may not be a problem, but when you're raised in Texas and you like warm weather, walking 2 more miles than need be in 29 degree weather is not something you look forward to. I thought about how dumb I felt because of what just happened, then I start to walk to where my car really is, and decide to take a shortcut, which didn't turn into much of a shortcut after all.

To say the least my day has been pretty out of the ordinary and I'm thinking that I should go to bed earlier tonight so that maybe I will be a little more wise come tomorrow.
On a good note - we leave for Texas a week from TOMORROW!! WOOHOO!

Thanksgiving Festivities

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

So for this Thanksgiving break we were able to go to Tustin, California to Cole's Aunt Teri and Uncle Chris' house with lots of other family members as well. I didn't get many pictures of us while we were there, but just so you know we had a good time! I have decided that if we ended up living in California someday I would be completely okay with that - they have a lot of pride in their state just as big as us Texans do, so that may clash a bit, but I like that there's a beach and lots of fun cities to visit! Plus a state that has warm weather throughout the majority of the year will always have a place in my heart.

My first time to see the bright lights of Las Vegas!
Not sure what's goin on here since I wasn't around when the picture was taken, but I like it!

The beautiful picture of myself coming out of the bathroom.

This is Cole telling me that he wasn't going to share a cheeseburger with me.
I punched him when he told me he didn't want to share with me.

Not sure what this is all about...

In between the times of these photos being taken we were just hanging out at our family's house, eating good food, playing games and just relaxing! We even got to enjoy lunch at Panera one day - yummy! Sorry I don't have any pictures, but I do have a video of Madi, Hadley and myself "whipping our hair" for the family. :)

Then on our way back we rode with our good friends Eric and Ariana since they're from Southern California as well - it was fun! We stopped in Vegas to get lunch and these are a few things on Las Vegas Boulevard that I found interesting.

This is the MGM hotel where a lot of famous people stay when they go to Vegas.

The "mini" statue of liberty.

Us at Caesar's Palace shopping mall.

The amazing 3 story H&M that I had to go buy a new clean shirt in after my incident that you'll see.

Waiting for our dessert!

We saved their chocolate from running onto the table but...

Noticed that my arm got a lot of peanut butter and chocolate all over it as I rescued Eric and Ariana's chocolate!

Cole was clean, but I was wasn't.

He didn't want it to go to waste so he tried to lick it off - not a success.

I'd say we had a pretty good time and that my first time to be in California was very enjoyable! Our next outing is to Texas for the majority of Christmas break and we are beyond ready and excited to be there and to have another break from school!!

On another note, we have officially moved into our own little place and have been there for 2 weeks! It's been great and we feel beyond blessed to have the opportunity that we do. I will admit that I do miss Midway and it was a little hard to leave, but it is a lot nicer to have a shorter drive to school and to be closer to our friends. We do recognize though that living in Midway was a blessing itself and are very grateful to have been there as well, but life goes on and you take what you can get, right? We'll put up pictures of our cute little house once we're completely settled in (hopefully by this weekend) so that y'all in Texas and various places can see it! :)

Thanks to the Jensen's as well as all of our other family members who made our trip and time in California possible! We love you!

Guess what?!

Cole and I both have jobs on campus now and we get to start moving things into our new place this weekend!! We are so grateful for blessings like these in our lives and pray that they keep comin'!

Random thoughts of mine

Tuesday, November 1, 2011

So there's a few things I want to tell y'all about.

#1: Cole and I have officially been married for SIX MONTHS! So crazy how fast the time has gone by. We celebrated by going to Salt Lake and enjoying a wonderful dinner at The Cheesecake Factory. Always hits the spot!

Me chowing down on yummy fried mac 'n' cheese on top of marinara sauce.

Happy us after a yummy meal and a fun date at Cheesecake Factory.

#2: I got a job on campus - woohoo! I work in the International Services office and my job is helping the thousands of international students at BYU with their required paper work and helping them make sure that everything they need in order to attend school in the US is current so that they're not deported. It's a lot of information to learn, but very interesting and I love all of the people I work with!

#3: Cole has an interview tomorrow for a job on campus! It's with Student Services and if he gets it he'll be answering phone calls and questions from people who come in about many of the services that students have access to on campus. Admissions, scholarships, financial aid, etc.

#4: I ordered some really cute boots from Journey's this past weekend and they arrived in the mail yesterday! I was super excited, but to my dismay they sent me one boot in the size 6 1/2 and the other in a size 7...not gonna work for my feet! Sadly I'm going to have to send them back and wait just a little bit longer to wear them.

Aren't these boots SO adorable?? I think so. :)

That's all I can think of for right now, but hopefully there will be more to update about in the weeks to come!

Loving our lovely life.

Tuesday, October 18, 2011

I'm just really in love with this picture right now, so I thought I'd share it with y'all. :)
Why do you ask? Well...
1. Cole is the very handsome love of my life and he's sitting by my side in this picture.
2. We're at a BYU football game - always great (as long as Riley Nelson is our QB).
3. I was having a good hair day - always great as well.

We're pretty busy with school right now because midterms always seem to make it that way, but we are glad to be attending a wonderful school and receiving an education that will open many doors for our future. It's kind of crazy that we're almost half way done with this semester and starting to plan out our classes and schedule for next semester!

On another note, in 11 days we'll have been married for 6 months!! Time has really flown by! I remember when we were engaged a week felt like forever but now it seems that the days are passing by so quickly. We both have learned a lot about what it takes to keep a marriage together, and it's no easy task. Nonetheless neither one of us would tell you that we regret committing to one another for time and all eternity. Being able to grow and learn in this life with your best friend by your side is an amazing thing and I know that I couldn't have picked a better person for myself than Cole!

In Case You Missed It...

Here's the highlights from General Conference! Very inspiring, uplifting and wonderful messages if I do say so myself. :)

Wanna hear about our good week?!

Monday, October 3, 2011

First of all this past weekend was General Conference and it was oh so lovely. We got to sit relax all weekend and listen to the inspired messages that the leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints had to offer to us. It's held twice a year (the first weekend in April & October) and it always seems to occur at the right time in my life; just when I need to be spiritually edified and uplifted the most. Cole and I decided that as a family tradition we're going to make pumpkin cinnamon rolls during the October conference, and regular cinnamon rolls during the April conference! This weekend was the first time to try the recipe that I found, and it was definitely a hit!

Cream cheese frosting to smother on top of them. :)

The final product - so yummy!
Another good thing is that BYU won against Utah State! We weren't so sure how this game was going to turn out because Utah State has a pretty good team, but the last minute and a half our back up quarter back stepped up and became the hero of the game.

People rushed the field after, but the cops were stopping who they could and giving them tickets, so I decided we should just stay in the stands. Cole was disappointed because I was being boring and careful.
And last but certainly not least we decided to go on a ride to look at all the beautiful trees changing colors, and had a wonderful time being together and enjoying a piece of the beautiful earth that we are so blessed to live in.

Cole's favorite trees! Quaking aspens. :)

This cabin is for sale - if we had money we'd totally buy it!

And here's a video of a few parts of our adventure!

Tomorrow is Cole's birthday and I have a special date planned for him, so you'll probably be hearing about that next!
